Ellie's Winter PAD

Day 1 - Autumn Leaves
Yellow is one of the prettiest colors of leaves around here.  Since there are many evergreens in Louisiana, there are fewer trees and plants that turn color.  I really like the contrast of the yellow of the leaves and the gray of the building together.

Day 2 - Camellias
I took this photo after a slight misty rain in the evening when the sun had not peaked out of the clouds yet.  We have two camellia bushes in our yard and every year they never fail to produce beautiful pink flowers.

Day 3 - Misty Evening
As I was walking outside on a very misty and foggy evening I noticed this beautiful Sweet Gum sapling growing along side some other bushes.  Sweet Gums have beautiful red and orange leaves in the fall and some of their leaves can get to be a very big size.

Day 4 - Little Boy Boots
This week we traveled up to visit some friends of ours in Arkansas for their annual Christmas Party.  They have nine children and boots are not uncommon at their house.  When we were there I saw these boots next to their fire place in a perfect position to photograph.

Day 5 - Christmas Party
This is also in Arkansas at our friends house...we were able to help prepare food and decorations for the Christmas Party in the evening.  Over 100 people came and there were plenty of babies and young children...and of course a  game of Benjame.  (Benjame is similar to tag except when the person who is "it" tags someone, they become "it" also and it keeps going on (it is really fun to play with a lot of people))

Day 6 -Mr. Squirrel
If you look very closely you will actually be able to see this squirrel twitch its tail...that is when it is not a photograph.  :)

Day 7 - Self Portrait
Today I experimented with different ways of getting a self portrait.  A mirror is very helpful, although, there are other ways to take one for example; setting the camera on a self timer.  I also tried different hats on and overall had a lot of fun.

Day 8 - Old Treasures
Among the things I like to do is to collect (and read) old books.  Though I have not undertaken  reading this book yet it made for a wonderful photograph!

Day 9 - Winter Days + Tea = Ahhhh!

When winter days are cold and wet
And wind whistles in the trees,
When snow on the ground has set
And fallen are the leaves.

And when inside it's warm as can be
And the fire is hot and nice
That is the time for tea,
Tea with orange and spice!

Day 10 - The Five Little Soldiers
When Daddy was a boy his mother gave him these little soldiers.  He has told us stories of when he used to play with them.  Since they are no longer played with though, we now set them on the piano for decoration every winter.

Day 11 - "The Heavens are Telling...
...of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Psalm 19:1

I took this photo right before the sun dipped below the horizon and the moon had begun it's watch over the night sky.  I really enjoy going out on a clear night and seeing the thousands of stars that God has made.  It's really amazing that He cares for us and hears our prayers!

Day 12 - Birthday Gifts
This is a photo of several gifts that I received for my birthday from my family.  In the middle is a card from David that he designed shaped like an 3-d E.

Day 13 - 'Tis the season...
This afternoon I was walking around the forest line and to my surprise and delight I discovered clusters of red berries!  After I took this photo I took some of the berries in to decorate with around the house.  I think they add a very nice touch to winter decorations!

Day 14 - Christmas
This Christmas we had some good friends over for lunch, singing, and fellowship.  I made (printed from the computer) name plates for the table.  They added a very nice touch to the table.  Among some of the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen were sweet potato pie, Hooper Family Signature Rolls, and Mama's amazing chicken.  We had a wonderful time!
